It Takes My Child to Serve the Crown

There are a great many opportunities for anyone to Serve at It Takes My Child to Raze a Village X!!

It Takes My Child to Serve the Crown Largesse Basket (All Ages)

We are collecting Largesse for Their Majesties to later give out. There will be opportunities to contribute at the event, but you are also welcome to contribute things you make at home. Largesse in the SCA is anything that can be given away as a gift by the person giving it out. Some ideas are little tokens like beads and rings, bracelets, mini board games, pouches, linen bonnets for children, tops, hobby horses, leather balls, felted toys, woven trim, rag dolls, carved horses and soldiers, baby rattles. If you’d like to volunteer:  There is no sign-up, just bring your donation to the event!

Retaining

Did you know that Their Majesties are not supposed to carry anything? They each have a special person, called a Retainer, who follows them around and carries their bag, their cup, and anything else they need carried. Retainers also hold open the door for Their Majesty and take a few steps back when they are having a private conversation. Retainer shifts are an hour long. People who are 12 and up may retain on their own, or a younger child may serve with a parent. (We recommend upper elementary school and up for this job.)
